The Overthinker’s Guide to Modern Marketing isn’t a podcast about self-promotion. It’s a podcast about ideas, experiences, lessons learned, and occasionally discovering that the marketing textbook was quietly making things up all along.
We’re always interested in speaking with people who have genuinely interesting stories to tell about marketing, branding, customer behaviour, creativity, communications, psychology, business growth, or the wonderfully unpredictable business of influencing human beings.
You don’t need to be famous. You don’t need a bestselling book. You don’t even need to use the word synergy in a sentence. You need to have something worthwhile that our audience can learn from.
Who Makes a Great Guest?
We’re looking for marketers, founders, entrepreneurs, academics, authors, researchers, consultants, creatives, and business leaders who can share real experiences rather than recycled LinkedIn clichés.
Some examples include:
Building a memorable brand
Launching a successful business
Marketing psychology and behavioural science
Customer experience
Content marketing
Digital marketing
Brand strategy
PR and communications
B2B marketing
Entrepreneurship
Creative thinking
Lessons from success (and failure)
Marketing innovation
AI in marketing
Leadership and business growth
If your story can help marketers think differently, we’d love to hear it.
This Is an Audio Podcast
The Overthinker’s Guide to Modern Marketing is an audio-only podcast.
There are no cameras, studio lights or worries about whether your bookshelf looks impressive enough. We focus entirely on having thoughtful, engaging conversations that listeners can enjoy wherever they happen to be, whether that’s driving to work, walking the dog, or attempting to assemble flat-pack furniture.
Good audio is therefore incredibly important.
What You’ll Need
To make sure every episode sounds professional, we ask that guests have:
A good quality USB or XLR microphone (or equivalent podcast-quality audio setup)
Headphones to prevent audio echo
A quiet room with minimal background noise
A fast and stable broadband connection
Poor internet connections can introduce dropouts, distortion and interruptions that are difficult or sometimes impossible to fix during editing. If your connection is unreliable, we’ll usually suggest rescheduling rather than recording an episode that neither of us will be happy with.
Nearly all interviews will be recorded remotely using professional online recording software, allowing guests to join from almost anywhere in the world.
If you’re based in Scotland’s Central Belt, including Edinburgh, Glasgow, Stirling, Falkirk, Livingston, Dunfermline, or the surrounding areas, we may also be able to arrange an in-person recording by prior agreement.
Before We Record
If your application looks like a good fit, we’ll arrange a short introductory conversation.
This gives us an opportunity to:
discuss your story
explore potential topics
make sure the conversation suits our audience
answer any questions you may have
carry out a quick technical check before recording
It also helps ensure the finished episode feels natural, engaging and genuinely valuable for listeners.
